Forma 5 at the R-evolve Innovation Camp

Our participation in Copenhagen reaffirms our commitment to the circular economy, transparency, and sustainable design throughout the product lifecycle.

Forma 5 had the honor of participating in the R-evolve Innovation Camp, held from September 11 to 13 in Copenhagen, a key event of the Horizon Europe project that brings together leading stakeholders in the furniture sector to explore innovative strategies in sustainability and the circular economy. Over the course of three days, we had the opportunity to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams on pilot projects aimed at testing new circular economy business models (CEBMs), circular design strategies, and digital tools such as the Digital Product Passport (DPP). This experience allowed us to share our approach to responsible design and production, where durability, modularity, and material efficiency are fundamental pillars. Additionally, we observed how digitalization and data management become strategic allies in transforming products into assets that deliver value beyond their initial functionality. Interacting with other manufacturers, academics, and industry experts broadened our perspective on integrating sustainable practices and how these can translate into real competitive advantages, aligned with the objectives of the European Green Deal and the new sustainable design regulations.

One of the central topics of the camp was the Digital Product Passport (DPP), a tool that enables companies to collect, organize, and share product information in a transparent manner. At Forma 5, we consider this approach essential for empowering consumers by providing clear information about the materials, processes, and recyclability of each product. During the working sessions, we engaged in in-depth discussions on how DPPs can become a driver of innovation, promoting circular economy business models that reduce environmental impact and encourage reuse and recycling. We also addressed the importance of collaboration among stakeholders, including suppliers, distributors, and customers, to ensure that sustainable information and practices are effectively implemented throughout the value chain. Integrating this knowledge allows us to strengthen our own design and production strategies, ensuring that every chair, table, or piece of furniture we develop meets the highest standards of sustainability, functionality, and aesthetics, without compromising the quality and comfort that define Forma 5.

Another key aspect of the event was the hands-on workshops, in which participating teams disassembled and analyzed products to identify opportunities for improvement in design and materials. For Forma 5, this exercise was particularly valuable, as it reinforced our belief that modularity and ease of disassembly are essential for extending the lifespan of our products and facilitating their recycling or reuse. During the workshops, we shared our experience in designing robust metal structures combined with wooden seats and backs, some upholstered, offering both durability and versatility in contract and residential settings. Direct interaction with scientific experts and industry professionals allowed us to validate our circular design solutions and gain inspiration for future collections. This practical approach strengthens our philosophy of applied innovation, where every design decision aims to reduce environmental impact without compromising functionality or aesthetics, thus contributing to a more sustainable future for the furniture industry.

At the conclusion of the R-evolve Innovation Camp, it became clear that sustainability and innovation are not just strategic goals, but commitments that must be integrated at every stage of the product lifecycle. Forma 5’s participation in this event allowed us to consolidate our role as a benchmark in responsible design, circular economy, and transparency within the furniture sector, while also learning from international best practices. The knowledge gained—particularly regarding DPPs, CEBMs, and modular design—will be directly applied to our internal processes and the planning of new products. Furthermore, we reaffirm the importance of collaborating with other industry stakeholders and the regulatory community to drive real change toward a more sustainable production model. At Forma 5, we believe that collaboration, innovation, and transparency are the pillars for leading the transformation of the furniture sector and making a tangible contribution to a more environmentally responsible future, while maintaining our core values of quality, design, and social commitment.
